Center for English Academic Communication was opened at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv

JUNE 9, 2016 – On May 25, 2016, members of the University Academic Council participated in the Opening Ceremony of the Center for English Academic Writing at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv which started its activities in a new room (Room 237, main building of the University).

IFNUL Rector, Professor Volodymyr Melnyk addressed to the participants of the event with welcoming speech. He highlighted that the opening of the Center for English academic writing is primarily a response to the demand of time, this is another step to ensure the high European level of Ukrainian education. Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Volodymyr Sulym acquainted participants of the event with the areas and specific character of the Center for academic writing, which will help students and professors to acquire knowledge according to the certificates A1-C2.

Details on technical equipment of the Center and possibilities that it opens before those wishing to improve their knowledge of English explained professors from the Faculty of Foreign Languages, director of the Center, Professor Tetyana Yakhontova, Deputy Director, Associate Professor Larysa Sanotska and Director of the Agency of Foreign Languages, certified representative of Cambridge English exams in Ukraine, Nataliya Dyachuk.

Center for English Academic Writing was established by the decision of the University Academic Council in 2006. The requirements for teaching and learning English have been changing during the past 10 years. Thus, according to a new concept of learning foreign languages in the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, the Center has expanded the areas of its activities and from now on it is the free-access resource and support unit for students, faculty and interested professionals on local, regional, and national levels on the basis of which will be carried out testing to determine the level of English language knowledge and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.
