Expanding the Cooperation between the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and Charles University in Prague

FEBRUARY 15, 2016 – The matter of strengthening Ukrainian-Czech academic relations by expanding the cooperation between the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and Charles University in Prague launched 5 years ago became the subject of the meeting of Vice-Rector for Academic and International Affairs Mariya Zubrytska, Dean of the Faculty of Philology Sviatoslav Pylypchuk, Associate Professor of Slavic Philology of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv Nadiya Lobur with Professors from Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic) Jiří and Helena Hasil.

On behalf of the administrative staff of the Lviv National University Vice-rector Mariya Zubrytska welcomed the guests from Czech Republic and expressed gratitude to them for their important mission carried out at the Lviv National University as ambassadors of Czech culture and education in Ukraine.

“Your visit to our University is intellectual event. I am convinced that it is a great investment into the future and particularly into the development of Bohemistics at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv”- said Prof. Zubrytska. Vice-Rector notified that “Lviv National University is the only university in Ukraine where all Slavic languages are taught. Hence, for us it is very important to develop Bohemistics in Lviv and Ukrainian studies at Charles University in Prague”.

During the meeting there have been discussed different formats of expansion of the Ukrainian-Czech cooperation, where Vice-Rector underlined the importance of academic exchanges as a prerequisite for qualified training in high school. According to Mariya Zubrytska, a great opportunity for this offer Erasmus + and collaboration with International Visegrad Fund.

Professor Jiří Hasil supported the proposal of his Lviv colleagues and assured their initiatives of his support. In addition, as the Director of the International Summer School of Slavonic Studies he cordially invited the students of IFNUL to participate in summer schools for foreign students.

Charles University in Prague has a long academic tradition and is considered one of the best universities in Central Europe. Therefore, strengthening the academic cooperation between the universities opens up new possibilities for students and teachers of the IFNUL as one of the leading universities in Ukraine.
