Experts from five countries discussed prospects of implementation of NATO standards in Ukraine

SEPTEMBER 24, 2015 – On September 23, 2015, the International Scientific Conference “Implementation of NATO Standards in Ukraine: Achievements and Prospects” was held at IFNUL. It was organized by the International Security and Partnership Center of IFNUL and Lviv Regional State Administration.

The conference was attended by the diplomats of NATO member countries (Lithuania, Poland, Canada, Czech Republic), NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine and NATO Liaison Office in Ukraine, scientists, leading experts in the field of cooperation with international organizations and practitioners from Regional State Administration.

On behalf of the Administration of Lviv University, Vice-Rector for Academic and International Affairs, Prof. Mariya Zubrytska welcomed the participants and wished the experts ”to move from the discussion to action, to implement the real steps in order that Ukrainian society, which lives today in the coordinate system of “war and peace, stability and reforms, security and threats” clearly realized the Euro-Atlantic choice of the country.” Mariya Zubrytska expressed the expectations that the authorities would take note of practical achievements of the experts who took part in the discussion of topical issues of implementation of NATO standards in Ukraine in order to bring the implementation of concrete steps towards Euro-Atlantic integration.

Conference participants included Prof. Markiyan Malskyy, the moderator of the event, Head of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy, Director of the International Security and Partnership Center; Petro Kolodiy, Head of Lviv Regional Council, Yuriy Pidlisnyy, Deputy Head of Lviv Regional State Administration; Jaroslaw Drozd, Consul General of Poland in Lviv; Panasyuk Vasyliy, Scientific Secretary of the Petro Sahaydachnyy National Military Academy; Mykhaylo Mykievych, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Relations of IFNUL, Head of the Department of European Law.

After the formal opening of the International Scientific Conference “Implementation of NATO standards in Ukraine: Achievements and Prospects” experts discussed a number of important issues on further cooperation between Ukraine and NATO. In particular, they talked about problems of adapting NATO to the new challenges in the world; international assistance to Ukraine and Annual National Programme of NATO-Ukraine cooperation.
