Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina to Ukraine met with IFNUL students

NOVEMBER 27, 2015 – Within the days of Argentinean culture in Ukraine the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina to Ukraine Lila Roldan Vazquez de Moine on November 25, 2015 visited the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv where she met with students of the Faculty of International Relations.

Acting Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Prof. Ihor Byk introduced the honored guest noting that the meeting with the Ambassador of Argentina to Ukraine is a continuation of dialogue between youth and prominent politicians, diplomats and experts in international relations.

“Argentina and Ukraine have a very strong diplomatic relations supported by Ukrainian Diaspora who came to Argentina and is part of Argentine society. This friendship and this support was confirmed by the fact that Argentina was the first Latin American country to recognize the independence of Ukrainian People’s Republic in 1921 and independence of modern Ukraine in 1991”, – stressed the Ambassador.

Lila Roldan Vazquez de Moine noted that the Embassy strengthens friendly relations and cooperation between Argentina and Ukraine, and thus directs its activities to popularization of Argentine culture and traditions among Ukrainians. The diplomat informed that on November 10 in Kiev was opened an Argentine House in Ukraine, which now becomes a meeting place for those who are interested in Argentine cinema, literature, traditions – all that makes life style of Argentines unique and inimitable.

The Ambassador added that within the Days of Argentinean culture in Ukraine, which started on November 10 in Kyiv and will last until November 27, 2015 a series of events also will take place in Lviv. After meeting with the students of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv Argentinean diplomat took part in the celebration of the memorial table opening at the site of the Consulate of the Republic of Argentina in Lviv.

The teaching of Spanish language which is the official language in Argentina has a long history at IFNUL which was created by the Departments of French and Spanish philology. In order to facilitate long bilateral cooperation between Ukraine, Argentina, Spain and Mexico in 2011 due to the celebration of the 350th anniversary of Lviv University the Spanish Centre was opened at the Faculty of Foreign Languages.
