IFNUL and East Carolina University (USA) intend to intensify cooperation within Global Academic Initiatives Program

MAY 10, 2016 – As a part of an official visit to Lviv the delegation of East Carolina University — Head of Global Academic Initiatives, Director of Global Understanding Program Jamie Leibowitz and Coordinator of Platform of Research and Development of Global Academic Initiatives Biwu Yang — visited IFNUL on May 5, 2016, where they had a collegiate meeting with Vice-Rector for Academic and International Affairs Mariya Zubrytska. The meeting was also attended by representatives of staff and administration of Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Faculty of International Relations.

“Our students are the ones who build the future, and therefore they must deeply understand the diversity and intrinsic value of all human beings. Unfortunately, many students get most of the information about other cultures from news, TV shows or movies. So we decided to use online tools to create a virtual environment that can efficiently overcome the barriers to obtain accurate information,” – admitted the Head of Global Academic Initiatives, Director of Global Understanding Program Jamie Leibowitz.

The Coordinator of Platform of Research and Development of Global Academic Initiatives Biwu Yang explained the idea of Global Academic Initiatives, under which the University of East Carolina works with over 50 partner organizations in more than 30 countries worldwide, and delivers live, interactive communication for 2,400 students around the world Every year.

Scientists from East Carolina University program presented to their Ukrainian colleagues, members of the Global Academic Initiatives (GAI) – Global Understanding Course, GAI Opportunities, Global Partners in Education. Vice-Rector Mariya Zubrytska expressed her gratitude to the US guests for interesting proposals and described the successful experience of the implementation of a pilot GAI project at IFNUL with an aim to acquire a unique practice of communication using the latest information technologies.

During the discussion the sides also highlighted prospects of enhancing academic cooperation between the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and East Carolina University, including programs to be implemented within Global Academic Initiatives.
