Meeting with a delegation of experts from the US and Germany

MAY 29, 2015 – On May 25, 2015 within a one-day visit to Lviv a delegation of experts from the US and Germany attended the IFNUL and met with the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Mariya Zubrytska, Associate Prof. Roman Kalytchak, Director of the Unites States Studies Center at the Faculty of International Relations and graduates from the research programs of the Kennan Institute in Ukraine, most of whom represented our University. The delegation consisted of the following members: Dr. Matthew Rojansky, Director of the Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, Dr. Thomas Graham, Professor at Yale University, Special Advisor to the Chairman of the National Security Council (2004-2007), Dr. Kimberly Martin, Deputy Director of the Harriman Institute at Columbia University, Dr. Jack Snyder, Professor of the Department of International Relations at Columbia University, Dr. Rajan Menon, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science at City College in New York, Dr. Klaus Sehbers, Director of Global Politics Centre at The Freie Universität Berlin and Kateryna Smahliy, Director of the Kennan Institute in Kyiv.

The sides discussed a wide range of issues concerning the implementation of reforms, regional security and support, expected by Ukraine, as well as the political situation in the region. Some participants of the dialogue stressed upon the need of close acquaintance with the situation in Ukraine, in particular, what must be in the field of interest of Western researchers to communicate to governments and societies of Western Europe and North America more objective and balanced information on events in our country.

American experts together with their German and Ukrainian colleagues discussed the possibility of deepening the cooperation with Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington and the prospect of establishing IFNUL academic contacts with the most prestigious and famous universities in the world.
