Presentation of Fulbright Program at IFNUL

MARCH 24, 2015 – On March 20, 2015 at the Faculty of Philology was conducted the presentation of one of the most prestigious international academic exchange programs – Fulbright Program, sponsored by the US government.

Deputy Director of the Fulbright Program in Ukraine, coordinator of exchange programs for young scientists and students Inna Barysh told about the history of founding of the Fulbright Program and its international reputation. Fulbright Program has been successfully operating since 1946, now – in 155 countries. Since 1992 about 900 Ukrainians studied, interned, conducted research in the United States within this Program; more than 530 Americans were giving lectures in Ukrainian universities and were engaged in scientific work.

According to Inna Barysh the idea of international education fostered intercultural dialogue and besides that made it possible not only to overcome geographical boundaries for scholars and students, but also contributed to improvement of understanding and networking of personal and professional contacts.

In Ukraine Fulbright Program started in 1992 and since 1998 in Kiev a separate office of the Program has been operating. Funds to cover the costs associated with staying of Americans in Ukraine and Ukrainians in the US. Each year Congress allocate money for the program.

Since 1992 the Fulbright Program became a part of cultural and scientific sphere of Ukraine. Community of graduates with good traditions and experience appeared in Ukraine and each representative contributed to an activation of intellectual life in our country. Inna Barysh noted that Lviv and Lviv University has the largest number of Fulbrighters.

Associate Professor of Teaching from the Ukrainian Catholic University, a graduate of the Lviv University, Igor Kobel shared his scientific training experience in the United States. Igor Kobel participated in Fulbright Academic Exchange Programs in Hollodetsk University (2012-2013) and in the American Catholic University (both in Washington, DC), and the following year he received a grant from the Government of Alberta province (Canada) International Education Award for Internship at the University of Alberta.
