IFNUL among Top 3 Most Quoted Ukrainian Higher Educational Institutions
JANUARY 23, 2017 – IFNUL has confirmed its high scientific reputation once more, entering the top three of the latest indicators of the SCOPUS Scientometric Database (for quoting monitoring of scientific articles, published by the educational institution or its employees). SCOPUS constantly indexes over 20,000 scientific journals, 370 book series and 5.5 million conference proceedings.
The Ukrainian universities had been ranked in a table according to the H-index – an indicator formed on the basis of the number of scientific publications and quantity of quoting’ analysis.
According to the rating data, the highest indices among the universities of Ukraine belong to the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv – 73, the Vasyl Karazin Kharkiv National University – 57 and the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv – 46.
Yuriy Plevachuk, the Head of Scientific Research Department, points out that bibliographic references are a kind of information links indicator between scientific documents and their authors, a prerequisite of the scientific ethics, the criterion of contribution of individual scientists and groups of researches in science as well. Besides, he admits that quoting tradition creates a unique kind of continuous expert evaluation, automatically provides competence of experts and authors.
The H-index is a scientometric indicator of the SciVerse Scopus Database, that had been proposed in 2005 by the American physicist Jorge E. Hirsch for evaluation of research activities of scientists. It should be noted that the SciVerse Scopus Database allows to evaluate an individual scientist, and to calculate scientometric profile of an organization as well.
The highest H-indices at the University belong to researches from the Faculty of Physics, the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, and the Faculty of Electronics and Computer Technologies. In addition, the top-ten most quoted Ukrainian Universities include: the Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University – 46, the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University – 44, National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” – 38, Donetsk National Medical University – 37, the Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University – 33, the National Technical University Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute – 33, and Lviv Polytechnic National University – 30.
