IFNUL signed an agreement with Roztocze National Park (Poland)

APRIL 30, 2015 – On April 24, 2015 the delegation of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, headed by Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work Prof. Yaroslav Harasym visited Zwierzyniec (Poland) and took part in an international conference dedicated to the establishment of the Polish-Ukrainian Biosphere Reserve “Roztochya”. The delegation consisted of the following IFNUL representatives: Volodymyr Bilaniuk, Dean of the Faculty of Geography, Yaroslav Kravchuk, Head of the Department of Geomorphology and Paleogeography, Yuriy Zinko, a Senior Lecturer of the Department of Geomorphology and Paleogeography, Oksana Ivaskevych, Head of Scientific and Technical information of Scientific Research Department. In addition, representatives of the University learned about the scientific, educational and recreational infrastructure of Roztocze National Park.

The agreement was reached to establish inter-institutional cooperation during negotiations with the Polish side. Thus, IFNUL Vice-Rector Yaroslav Harasym and Director of the Roztocze National Park Zdzislaw Strupeniuk signed a cooperation agreement between the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and Roztocze National Park in Zwierzyniec on environmental protection, scientific research, environmental monitoring and cross-border tourism, cooperation for the creation of transboundary Biosphere Reserve “Roztochya”.

The agreement stipulates active cooperation of scientists and representatives of Lviv University and Roztoche National Park for nature conservation in Biosphere Reserve “Roztochya”. In particular, agreement provides a joint geographic, biological and environmental researches, as well as the issues of planning and operation of international Biosphere Reserve “Roztochya”. The publishing of a joint monography on natural and economic issues of Roztochya highlands and conducting of educational practice for students of Faculty of Geography are planned for this year.
