The Ukrainian President Poroshenko presented his plan for the reform of Ukraine at IFNUL

OCTOBER 4, 2014 – The Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko presented his plan for the reform of Ukraine in a speech at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv during his visit to Lviv Region on Friday, October 3, 2014. Poroshenko promised to fight corruption and reduce red tape. He also mentioned that English should be taught as a second language instead of Russian.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes that Ukraine should not talk about the status of Russian but English. “The second language for study in schools should be English, because there is a relationship between the level of income and the level of knowledge of the English language by citizens of the country”, — he said during a speech at IFNUL.

According to Poroshenko, an example of this thesis is Singapore, where in the 1950s the country’s leadership forcibly made English a second language, and now Singapore is among the developed nations of the world. The President noted that the majority of Ukrainians believe that there should be one national language. At the same time he said that English should be aware of the ministers, and ideally — every government official.

“Let’s not talk about the status of Russian but English”, — said the president of Ukraine.
