US expert in International Relations Mark Dillen met with IFNUL students

NOVEMBER 9, 2015 – On November 3, 2015 Mark Dillen, former career US diplomat and owner of the consulting agency in San Francisco (USA) met with the students of the Faculty of International Relations of IFNUL as part of his visit to Lviv. The meeting was organized by the Center for American Studies at IFNUL within the framework of Fulbright Specialist Program.

During the meeting American expert noted that American policy is aimed more at domestic vector of development, but events in the international arena remain important for the US. Answering the question from the audience about the mechanisms of effective opposition to Russian propaganda in the terms of undeclared war in Ukraine Mark Dillen advised: “In order to counter Russian propaganda you need to inform people in a sufficient transparent way and what is most important in time.”

In the course of the meeting American diplomat outlined the main aspects of foreign and domestic policies of the United States in the context of the presidential campaign which is actively continuing at the level of the candidates of American political parties.

Professor Mark Dillen is a specialist with over 30 years experience in the field of political communication as a diplomat, a journalist and specialist in relations with the media. He studied journalism at Columbia University, lectures in Germany, Italy, Russia, Bulgaria and Slovenia. Prof. Dillen worked as Press Secretary for the US State Department during the First Gulf War, led communication and cultural ties to US missions in many countries, including US Communication Program in Afghanistan. Recently returned from Kabul where he had been the Director of Communications for USAID and Executive Secretary of USAID mission. Among his professional interest are Eastern European countries, including Ukraine and Russia, the development of education and communication in the former Soviet Union area.
