International Education Center (IEC) is a division of the Institute of Extended Education and Pre-University Training of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (IFNUL). We offer language instruction in the Ukrainian language in Lviv, Ukraine. We teach international students in the Ukrainian language and traditions as well as provide additional preparation for theizr future study programs in the universities of Ukraine. We have been teaching International Students since 1975. During this time approximately 4000 students from 70 countries have been taught at our School.
ADMISSION 2026
Foreign citizens, who do not speak Ukrainian, shall be accepted to International Education Center at IFNUL for preparation for entering into higher educational establishments of Ukraine. IEC conducts studies and issues certificates for entering higher educational establishments of Ukraine in accordance with curricula approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Ukrainian for Academic Purposes (UAP)
UAP-1 Program
A 10-month language and academic preparation course (UAP-1) for those who will subsequently pursue a university degree at an Ukrainian university (starts normally in September). The objective of the course is to develop the listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities of the international students by learning the Ukrainian in connection with other subjects. The current level of training in Ukrainian as a foreign language is from A1 up to B1.
The program also includes courses in speech development, general scientific terminology, and 2 entrance preparation subjects in the Ukrainian language (usually mathematics and history).
The total number of academic hours in the program is 1630, of which 1110 are classroom hours. The duration of an academic hour is 40 astronomical minutes.
Total duration – 10 months (September – June)
The deadline for submission of the documents on UAP-1 is July 30, 2026.
UAP-2 Program
A 6-months language course (UAP-2) is intended for intensive preparation of foreigners for study in higher education institutions of Ukraine. The objective of the course is to develop the Ukrainian listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities of the international students. The current level of training in Ukrainian as a foreign language is from A1 up to B1.
The total number of academic hours in the program is 1078, of which 720 are classroom hours. The duration of an academic hour is 40 astronomical minutes.
Total duration – 6 months (February – July)
The deadline for submission of the documents on UAP-2 is December 15, 2026.
HOW TO ENROLL
To enroll, please follow these simple steps:
Step 1. Inform the International Education Center of your intentions:
1) Complete the application form.
2) Prepare copy of your passport first page.

Step 2. Invitation Letter
Registration for studies in Ukraine takes place through the Unified Interagency Information System for the Recruitment of Foreign Applicants to Higher Education Institutions

During registration, you need to select the section language training.
After fulfilling all system requirements and approving your request, you will be able to download the invitation to study in your personal account.
Go to Step 3 only when you have positive reply from the University!
Step 3. Visa
Сontact Ukrainian Embassy/Consulate for your country and find out their requirements for student visa applicants.
Make your itinerary for arrival in Ukraine and, if necessary, obtain a transit visa/visas.
IFNUL international students that got a visa to Ukraine must send to International Education Center scan copy of Ukrainian visa and inform about their arrival date.
You must arrive in Ukraine no later than 30 days before the visa expires!
Step 4. Before arriving in Ukraine, check your documents:
- A passport with the Ukrainian visa;
- The document on previous education with transcripts.
NOTE:
- All states not referred to Hague convention and which don’t have bilateral or multilateral treaties with Ukraine provide the procedure of consular legalization of educational documents issued on their territories. The documents must be certified in a country of their issue, in a way that is officially used in this country for such certification, and legalized by the appropriate foreign diplomatic institution of Ukraine, unless otherwise is stipulated by international agreements of Ukraine.
- The list of members of Hague Convention (1961) Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (documents on education are certified by the Apostille stamp, which confirms the authenticity of this document) can be found via the link.
The Apostille stamp will significantly speed up the procedure for recognition of educational documents (including documents issued in the countries which Ukraine has bilateral or multilateral agreements containing provisions on the recognition of documents without additional certification).

Ukrainian as a Foreign Language (UFL)
Foreign citizens who do not speak Ukrainian and want to learn it for their own needs are accepted to the International Educational Center of IFNU for short-term courses under the programs Ukrainian as a Foreign Language (UFL). The objective of the course is to develop the listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities of the foreigners through ONLINE or OFFLINE learning. We offer the possibility of synchronous and asynchronous work with the teacher. Throughout the course, students have access to educational materials (textbooks) and additional video comments. Students who successfully complete the program and pass the exam receive a Certificate of IEC.
Ukrainian as a Foreign Language (UFL-1)
The UFL-1 program “Ukrainian as a foreign language” is intended for foreigners who want to start studying Ukrainian as a foreign language or improve their theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The current level of training in Ukrainian as a foreign language is A1, A2, B1, B2.
The total number of academic hours in the program is 106, of which 72 are classroom hours. The duration of an academic hour is 40 astronomical minutes.
Total duration – 8 weeks.
Ukrainian as a Foreign Language (UFL-2)
The UFL-2 program “Ukrainian as a foreign language” is intended for foreigners who want to start studying Ukrainian as a foreign language or improve their theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The current level of training in Ukrainian as a foreign language is A1, A2, B1, B2.
The total number of academic hours in the program is 202, of which 136 are classroom hours. The duration of an academic hour is 40 astronomical minutes.
