Newly appointed Ambassador of Latvia to Ukraine Juris Poikāns started his diplomatic mission with a visit to the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv
DECEMBER 24, 2015 – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine paid his first official visit to the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, where he met the Rector, Professor Volodymyr Melnyk.
The meeting was also attended by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia Volodymyr Hartsula, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Volodymyr Sulym, Acting Dean of the Faculty of International Relations Ihor Byk and Head of the Department of English Philology Mykhaylo Bilynskyi.
During the meeting the sides discussed the expansion of Ukrainian-Latvian cooperation, focusing mainly on creating appropriate conditions for learning the Latvian language and culture, conducting joint research, implementation of visiting lectures, featuring speakers and academic exchanges between partner universities. The Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine assured the University of his kind assistance in course of the development of the institutional cooperation between the Embassy of Latvia and the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The diplomat notified the continuing cooperation of the Scientific Library of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, IFNUL Baltic Center, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Philology and Faculty of International Relations with Latvian Universities and their role in the establishment of Ukrainian-Latvian inter-cultural dialogue.
The newly appointed Ambassador of Latvia Juris Poikāns stated his support and asserted that he would direct its efforts to strengthen the partnership between the two countries and facilitate the implementation of the European integration process initiated in Ukraine.
